Early 1970s: John Colton Sr. starts his plating career in a large shop, plating solely mass production products.
1979: John starts working for Bloomington Plating which is later known as Bo-Decor Metal Finishing where he continues to plate production products.
1987: John branched out with a business partner to start their own plating shop, focusing on “production” plating.
1996:
John and his business partner went separate ways.
John partners with another plater and adds specialty work to the mix.
John Jr. begins his plating career, helping plate and package parts for his dad.
2006: John Sr. made his dreams come true by opening a shop in Forest Lake, Minnesota, that focused primarily on the restoration of classic car and motorcycle parts.
2014: JR Custom Plating moves to North Branch, Minnesota.
2018: John Sr. makes the hard choice to sit on his Kubota all day, and John Jr. purchases and is the sole owner of JR Custom Plating.
2021: John Jr. decides having two daughters wasn’t keeping him busy enough. After the passing of a long time friend, Rick Bodeker, John Jr. acquires Bo-Decor.
